Farewell

This is my last column for the Nolin News. In January, I will be leaving Nolin RECC and 11-year employee Greg Lee will begin as your president and chief executive officer. Greg’s education, experience and leadership will take Nolin to the next level. In the past 45 years, Nolin has accomplished much. In the next 45 years, there will be opportunities to do even more. As Greg leads the cooperative and your employees, I see a tremendous future for a strong Nolin RECC.

Give Thanks for Our Veterans

November is both a month of thanksgiving and a time for recognizing those among us who have put on a uniform in service to our nation. Here at Nolin RECC, we count veterans and active duty military among those for whom we give thanks every day.

Washington Youth Tour Provides Students a Road to Self-Discovery

For many teens, the Rural Electric Youth Tour is full of “firsts.” It may be the first time they left the state, traveled on a chartered bus, visited the nation’s capital or have been away from their family for an extended period of time. Perhaps the most important “firsts” are seeing and experiencing the larger world through their own eyes, rather than through their parents’ perspectives.

A Cost-saving Annual Meeting

Nolin tried something different this year at the annual meeting. We cut back on costs by making some changes to the evening’s events, and we believe the results were positive – both in member satisfaction and financial savings. It was just about this time a year ago the Public Service Commission approved a rate increase for Nolin RECC members, and since then we have implemented several changes to reduce our operating expenses and have tightened our belts to decrease budgets in every department. It just made sense to reduce our annual meeting expenses also.

Co-op Connections: Beyond the Card

At Nolin RECC, our employees live the cooperative difference every day and work tirelessly to keep your lights on. But as a co-op member, you receive more than just electricity from us.

Safety Above all Else

"Safety” is a universal word that is mentioned often in our community and in the workplace. Safe working habits are a serious issue, especially when it comes to electrical safety. At Nolin RECC, safety is a number one priority.

The Power Behind Your Power

As April arrives, it brings with it the showers that produce spring flowers. It also marks the beginning of a potentially stormy season that can cause power outages. While Nolin strives to provide reliable electricity to our members, there are times when Mother Nature has other plans.

Plugging in to Electric Vehicles

There was a time when most of us regarded the idea of driving an electric car to be about as likely as traveling in George Jetson’s flying saucer. But no more.

Tax Reform has no Impact on Nolin RECC

The tax status of electric co-ops remains unchanged by the recent tax reform legislation.
